The Grab Bag Botany Story

Welcome to the Grab Bag Botany Store! My name is Jackie, and I am a nature enthusiast, wanderer, yogi, and lover of life. When I was a child, my dad would take my brother and I into the woods to “shop” for unique plants and flowers in what he called the “Grab Bag Botany Store.” Nostalgia led me to choose the perfect name for my shop! I now forage in the "Grab Bag Botany Store" often with my very own daughter.

As part of a yoga teacher training I completed in 2019, we were required to bring in an art project related to the topic of the week. For my second chakra project (think “change” as a theme), I picked my favorite changing leaves from the New England autumn forest and preserved them in resin. From there, I was hooked! I then created crystal point pieces embedded with healing stones for the subsequent chakra projects, and now I have found a passion for botanical jewelry!

Nature has always held a special place in my heart, and I have always wanted to be able to preserve memories by keeping bits of nature I've found in various places. Now, I finally have a way to do that and share those pieces with others. I never intended to start an Etsy shop, but after friends and family convinced me to begin selling my pieces, I took the plunge and opened my shop. When I received my very first sale and such a sweet review, my heart swelled, grateful that this human trusted me, a brand new shop with no reviews. Every single time I receive a review from one of you, the feeling is exactly the same. I never would have imagined this little business would turn into such a great, positive community and a real source of income for my family.

2020 has been a tough year for all of us. My family was in a very different position at the beginning of this year, but thanks to ALL of your love, orders, and shares, we have been able to get out in nature more than I ever imagined. I currently live in Louisiana, where there is a lot of natural beauty, yet I still long for the mountains on the daily. This Etsy shop has allowed me to go hiking in Tennessee, Northern California, and New Hampshire so far in 2020. I am so grateful to have been able to immerse myself in these diverse natural environments and collect flowers from each of these places to preserve forever.

Grab Bag Botany pieces help the wearer connect with nature on a daily basis, even if you are at work enclosed by four walls or out on a walk with your friends. Each necklace or earring is a good reminder of the natural world during those moments when you cannot experience it in person. Use our pieces as your daily reminder of what matters or send to a loved one with a personalized note the wearer will remember forever.

If you are in the market for handmade botanical jewelry or unique home decor art pieces, this is the shop for you! I craft every piece with intention and love to inspire and uplift each recipient.
